How Donald Shoup Will Find You a Parking Spot
For those of you who can't get enough of Donald Shoup, this video from reason.tv is an excellent overview of the parking problem and Shoup's research into it.
Shoup recommends 3 basic reforms:
- Get the right price for curb parking.
- Spend all parking meter revenue on services on the metered block.
- Reduce off-street parking requirements.
Can't find curb-side parking? UCLA economist Donald Shoup can find you a space. Professor Shoup is the author of The High Cost of Free Parking, and points out that, "just because the driver doesn't pay for parking doesn't mean the cost goes away."
